Architectural Details

Typical exterior detailing on a mid-nineteenth century house includes generous returns at the gable supported by paired brackets at the outside corners, with another pair in the middle of the eave walls. The fascia is trimmed with dentils, as are the gable ends.
Windows on the lower floor are topped with Entablatures, which offer shade and rain protection.
These are often lost over time through remodeling or deterioration, and they are not easily replaced.

Fortunately, most of the elements were intact, though a few were damaged or missing. This occasioned a number of interesting re-creation projects. The mouldings on the original house are no longer commercially available and had to be duplicated by a local cabinet shop, but all other work was done in our workshop. Some examples are shown below
