Basement, Staircase & Workshop

Building the Stairs

The staircase was designed to be spacious enough to move furniture. It was built from the basement to the attic, in an 8’x8′ box in the North West corner of the Outback structure.
The first step was add additional support. Chris and crew created a new beam from 3 2x12s.

Framing was built on the basement floor to support the floor above

and a hole was opened up.

Repeat this on the first and second floor

Frame in the Landings

Now you can see from the basement to the roof

Add Stair Stringers

Add internal framing

Note the internal 2×4’s are sideways to save space

To get into the attic, the stairs must turn 90 degrees to clear the rafters

To turn the stairs, “winders” were built on the landing and the last flight was undercut to squeeze into the available space.
