The Outback

As noted elsewhere, an addition had been started on the back of the original house. It might be the most important feature of the property.
First, its presence in it’s unfinished condition diminished the value of the property to the point where we could afford it.
It presented an opportunity to add 1200 square feet of living space plus an attic and basement using structure that was already in place.
It presented a real challenge in that everything was just awful. The floors slanted, the walls were not plumb, it did not sit properly on its foundation, the framing was haphazard. Other than four openings in the South wall, no provision had been made for windows. Tearing it down and starting over would have been too costly, so the challenge was to make something useful and pleasing out of something that appeared to have been made by drunken clowns.

The first thing was to stabilize it. We had a crew finish sheathing the walls and finish the roof to keep out the weather and the pigeons.

We’d always known that we’d have a deck on the South wall, In 2017, we finally got started on The Deck

In May, 2018, we started to Remake the South Wall. This involved re-framing a lot of the wall and making window assemblies.

Between travels in August & September, we finished the trim and siding.

In 2019 we finished the West Wall siding and painting

In June 2020, we did the the OutBack East Wall

In 2021 we did the OutBack Interior Framing
